week 3: Fresh Juices

For 10 weeks, I highlight a topic that has to do with lifestyle
This week: fresh juices.

One of my most favorite items in the kitchen is my slow-juicer.
Every morning I make a fresh juice to start the day.
It is a bit of work and bunch of cleaning afterwards, but each time I notice myself trying to skip it, I remind myself how healthy and tasty it is.
And what is 10 minutes on a day!? Why not giving myself this treat? Right?!
So let me share my most fav one:

Carrot, Apple, Beetroot & Ginger Juice.
It is said that this juice is very good for the kidneys and the liver.
The juice is also very tasty without the beets when you do not like the taste too much.

But they are super healthy: Beets help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, aiding brain function, and stabilizing mood. Due to the strong cleaning character of the beet, start with a little, a quarter to a third medium-sized root, going easy until your system gets accustomed to the effects.

2 - 3 carrots (medium to big ones)
2 apples
1/4 - 1/2 beetroot
1 cm of ginger
(Best to try out how many of each veggie you like to use)

-Wash carrots, apples and beetroot. Peel if desired.
-Cut apple is 4, remove the core. Cut carrots and beetroot into medium pieces.
-Add pieces  into the slow-juicer

What to do with the pulp:
- Pet food: I add carrot and apple first into the juicer. This pulp I put aside, to add later to the last minutes of cooking (chicken) rise for the dogs. Sometimes I juice a bit of beetroot, but not too much. Ginger is not good for dogs.
-Soup and sauce: put aside pulp of that ingredient you want to use for soup or a sauce.

What if you don’t have a (slow) juicer:
Pour ¾ cup water in a blender jar, food processor or mixer grinder jar.  Add apples, add carrot and ginger. Blend till smooth puree in the blender. Line a cheesecloth or a large fine mesh over an empty large bowl and pour prepared puree over it. Gather all sides of the cloth towards upward and squeeze to get the maximum juice out of the pulp. Discard the fibrous pulp.
